2017 Volunteer Job Description

This year we are expecting AFROFEST to be BIGGER then last years’, and with the help of our much-appreciated volunteers, the most successful AFROFEST yet. AFROFEST which is usually held on the weekend after Canada Day will be held on July 8 & 9, 2017 at Woodbine Park – Toronto, Ontario.

Here are the descriptions of the various volunteer positions available. Please keep in mind that though we will try to assign you to your desired position, circumstances may require some flexibility on your part.

Friday Setup – July 7, 2017(4 pm – 8 pm)
We are seeking people who aren’t afraid of a little physical work. You’ll be assisting in setting up Music Africa tents, banners, equipment. Set up membership, volunteer, artists and media tents.

Sunday Tear-Down – July 9, 2017(9:30 pm – 11:30 pm)
Assisting in tear-down of tents, banners, barricades and other AFROFEST equipment.

Membership Table – July 8 & 9, 2017

Saturday 11:00am – 11:00pm
Sunday 11:00am – 8:00pm

You will work directly with our Membership Coordinator in providing brochures and information about Music Africa, Assist Media, selling T- shirts & CD’s, answering questions from attendees and registering new members.

Volunteer & Information Table – July 8 & 9, 2017

Saturday 11:00am – 11:00pm
Sunday 11:00am – 8:00pm

You will be assisting the Volunteer Coordinator brochures, information and lost & found.

Vendor & Table Registration
Friday July 7, 12:00pm – 8:00pm; 2 four hr shifts/ Saturday July 8, 8 am – 1pm; 1 five hour shift; 12:00pm – 10:00pm; 2 five shifts/ Sunday July 9, 12:00pm – 10pm; 2- five hour shifts

You will be working directly with our Vendor Coordinator – Velda Vuo…in registering vendors and helping them in assigning places for their kiosk on Friday & Saturday. Sunday checking with vendors and relaying any problems or concerns.

Sponsorship Table – July 8 & 9, 2017

Saturday 11:00am – 11:00pm
Sunday 11:00am – 8:00pm

You will be working with our Sponsorship Coordinator in assisting sponsors with registering and setting up their kiosks, logo, posters and any other assistance needed.

We have a few sponsors that will need designated volunteers: Brussels Airlines and WorldRemit.

Baobab Stage (Youth) – July 8 & 9, 2017

2 Volunteers at every given time.

Saturday 1:00pm – 9:00pm
Sunday 1:00pm – 7:00pm
You will be assisting the Coordinator of this area for set-up, help the performers and whatever tasks they may need assistance with.
Children’s Creative Village – July 8 & 9, 2017 (11 am – 11 pm), various shifts)
Saturday 1:00pm – 6:00pm
Sunday 1:00pm – 6:00pm

You will be assisting the Children’s Village Coordinator- in a variety of activities, such as face painting and arts & crafts. Assist with set up and up of supplies as needed.

Executive Assistant to the Executive & Artistic Director

Provide the necessary support to the Executive, ensuring that all appointments. Must be able to communicate confidently and politely with sponsors, media and members within the public.

AFROFEST Marshall – July 8 & 9, 2017
Total about 12 needed between 4:00pm and Close on both days.
Saturday 10:00am – 12:00pm
Sunday 11:00am – 10:00pm

You will direct cars to the designated parking, provide crowd control, traffic control, helping artists with equipment, serve as security at various areas and report any problems to Music Africa representatives or other in authority.

Stage Support & Artist Hospitality- July 8 & 9, 2017
2 at all times.
Saturday 11:00am – 11:00pm
Sunday 11:00am – 8:00pm

You will be working directly with Stage Manager for ensuring that all non- technical needs of the artists are met, i.e., change rooms, meals, transportation and any other assistance.

General Volunteer (Floater) – July 8 & 9, 2017
About 3 needed at all times
Saturday 12:00pm – 11:00pm
Sunday 11:00am – 8:00pm

Help wherever help is needed eg. helping artists with equipment, providing stage support etc… This is ideal for someone who is capable, flexible and adaptable to multiple changing situations.

Work a min.5 hour shift unless otherwise stated (You can sign up for more than one shift if you want)
Receive one (1) meal coupon per 5 hour shift
Receive a volunteer t-shirt
Bottled water
